Color is one of the most important elements in the success (or failure) of your painting.
Many painters feel bound by the colors they see, which can lead to predictable paintings that
lack intrigue, no matter how well they are painted.
It’s essential for any artist to learn to harness the power of color and use it to express your vision.
In 6 Lessons you will learn:
strategies for for guaranteed color harmony and unity
how to work with the colors of your choice
how to work with harmonic color schemes
how to choose the mood of your painting
how to simplify values for a bolder composition
how to translate values to colors easily
the importance of "colorful neutrals" and how to use them
the “proportional rules” for color temperature dominance
how to balance your vivid vs. neutral colors
how to use color to direct the viewer’s eyes
how to analyze and fix colors that aren’t working together
and much more!
The Workshop Includes:
6 Instructional Video lessons approximately 1 hour each
Targeted homework assignments tailored to each lesson

*Workshop Details:
This workshop teaches artists a fun and engaging way to learn about the principles of color - through exercises and experimentation. Exercise assignments tailored to each weekly lesson are offered for students to work on and learn from. Each assignment is designed to help students push thru to new color possibilities, in a relaxing manner.
The homework assignments are not mandatory, but suggested. The best way to learn color is by doing it, not by watching the videos. My suggestion: do your homework and learn the best way - the old fashioned paint-under-the-fingernails approach!
This workshop does not offer instruction on how to mix colors for the purpose of matching realistic colors. The focus is geared to those artists who want to move away from “mixing to match” and are eager to express and communicate more personally - through their color choices.
*Please Note this is a self-study course. Students can work at their own pace, there is no pressure to finish the homework assignments by a deadline date.
The Beauty of Learning in a Group
It’s easy to learn quickly - by seeing how your classmates have interpretted the same assignments.
Before the class starts you'll be invited to join a private Facebook group viewable by class students only, so you can interact with your classmates...or choose not to - its up to you.
It is not mandatory to post your work or participate on FB, but you will learn more by doing so. Although I’m not actively participating in the FB group at this time, there is much to be gleaned from your classmates.
Also because the FB group is active, you can ask for feedback on any image, and often one of your fellow classmates will offer their comments or suggestions. Its a very supportive and open atmosphere.
When I take workshops I often learn so much from seeing
how other students in the class have handled the same assignment.
I see all the unique interpretations and choices that others have made which helps me realize new ideas and possibilities. It is incredibly eye-opening.
I notice aspects of other artists' work that I like, which helps me to see things differently. Plus I can reach out and ask them about their process, and help others along by sharing my own.
Best of all, I often make new friends, like-minded artists who are on the same journey. Art can be lonely working in a vacuum. its gratifying to share tips, trade techniques and especially form new friendships.
Note: You’ll need a Facebook account if you choose to post work on the class page and see others' posts.
