Testamonials, “Loosen Up” Workshop, 2020

Julie A: The Loosen up workshop with Patti has been amazing. I’ve learned so much from her and also from my fellow students who were a fun, supportive and inspiring bunch. The zoom recordings have flown by and the homework assignments have offered just the right level of challenge. We covered so many different aspects of painting in the 6 weeks. I loved “edges week” and having permission to repeat. It’s been fabulous, much as the Bending Reality colour workshop I did with her previously. I’d recommend a Patti workshop to anyone who wants to loosen up their style, have fun, feel inspired and learn.

Laura P: As always, Patti, it has been an inspirational workshop. I'm going to be working hard at consolidating what I've learnt and integrating it into my day to day practice,
The group dynamic has been great as well - some old friends (from previous courses) and new ones too - always positive, encouraging & supportive - just like you are!
You are a fabulous tutor - clear, articulate and caring, and pitching your critiques to perfection no matter the level of the student.
I owe so much of what I do now to you ...so thank you my dear ... I truly hope we'll meet in person one of these days! Laura

Barbara C: This was my 2nd online class with Patti. In both I have found the homework incredibly on point to incorporate and learn the focus of each lesson. You can do just a few pieces or really dive in on things that are of interest to you. I also found it worthwhile to go back to previous lessons from my former class when I ran in to issues in this class.

Michele M: (translated from French) I discovered Patti’s work through my research on the Daily Painting movement, then through his website and finally through her books including ′′ How to paint fast, loose and bold ". I had just found my way ..... Oil painter, realistic classic style cultivating the art of detail, I aspired for greater freedom from the subject. I have completed two training courses with Patti and there.... total happiness. Patti is a great artist, an excellent pedagogist and a beautiful person. It leads you to discover yourself towards your own expression, with requirement and kindness. Little by little she makes you acquire the techniques and drops the inhibitions. We work hard with Patti and it's essential to make progress. There is also a constant exchange of a friendly group, a family in which there is great fellowship. Seeing other people's work provides great emulation. Going to continue my work with this fantastic coach and as long as it lasts!!! MM, Bergerac, France.

Nicky T: Thank you Patti for a wonderful course. I loved the way you challenged and encouraged me to delve deeper into painting looser and I thoroughly enjoyed the process and experience. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Ronnie O: I have just had the most wonderful six weeks in the middle of being quarantined -- an on line ZOOM art class with Patti Mollica titled "Loosen UP". I haven't worked in acrylics in almost 50 years, but she was so encouraging and positive, we all just dove in.
She gave live lectures, but also showed videos demonstrating techniques. I loved that these demos were recorded without sound so she could explain in the lecture what she was doing. There was a different aspect taught each week, and homework assignments so we could practice what she discussed.
I also like that she gave us the techniques to interpret images in our own way, we didn't have to mimic her work. Patti is really an excellent and "non-threatening" teacher. Thanks so much!

Linda L: This is my second online workshop with Patti, and I am about to start a third. Patti is by far the best art teacher I have had. She encourages me to actually create a unique original piece of art and not just copy what I see in a reference photo. She is generous with her advice, resources, and suggestions for how to improve and grow. One of her special teaching approaches is her group Facebook page where we all post our work. We see how others interpreted the same reference. We encourage one another and share ideas. We become friends with people we have never met. I found her quite by chance. I saw a painting she did on Pinterest and then googled 'Mollica'. There her website popped up . It was my lucky day!

Radha R: This is my second workshop with Patti. Her use of color and brush work is what attracted me most and I wanted to learn the techniques. Patti is a very articulate teacher and her lesson, demo and homework assignments are well thought out. I feel very fortunate to learn from Patti and fellow artists. I love the format of distance learning and not having to travel carrying all my stuff. Thank you so much.

Kathy H: I have been taking art classes and workshops from various artists for about 8 years now. None of the classes or workshops has come close to being as informational and inspiring as Patti's. Her unique approach teaches invaluable lessons on composition, color and technique. I always leave her classes with new skills and information that will help to make me a better painter.

Ross A: Patti's work immediately stood out for me (as an Australian urban sketcher and landscape painter up to his elbows in gouache and acrylics).

Patti's point of difference wasn't just a great system to make drawings that work from complex settings, or methods of brushwork that lay down a rich, confident 3D structure with every stroke, or using the human figure to bring life, focus and a narrative to paintings of urban streets.

What's so different about Patti's 'way' of painting is the most beautiful interplay of colour and value.
Every shadow is an exciting mix of hues.
Every grey is colourful.
Every composition is a harmonious symphony that rises from the darkest undertones to the most vivid solo colour notes.

Carol L: Patti is both a really good artist and a really good teacher and I always seem to find her demos and focus on particular elements such as edges or brush strokes or simplifying to be just what I needed. I also love seeing how others have treated painting the same photos and her critiques and suggestions. The class has really inspired me to come out of my doldrums and paint or draw or make a color chart almost every day. Thanks so much Patti!

Lorraine M: This was my very first workshop with Patti and I enjoyed every moment of the 6 week session. The Loosen up workshop has motivated me to explore and challenge myself to seek new techniques. Patti is an excellent instructor who has the insight to make everyone feel good about the work that they have created. She is the best! I look forward to the next three months and enhancing the new techniques that i have learned. Thank you Patti for taking me on a new creative path.

Nicole M: This has been my first class with Patti - and I'm hoping this to be the first of many. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class - Patti's expert instruction, the skills I've learnt and the support of fellow students. Money super well spent. It's suited to all skill levels and was well paced. I'd even be inclined to do it again. Thanks so much Patti!

Jeanne O: Once again, (this is my second class with Patti), I am so appreciative of all you squeeze into a class, Patti. Your class sessions are well prepared and organized and your set up on Fb is very constructive. I also recognize that you are teaching us very specific skills AND addressing the emotions we are bringing to our work. You help us to build our skills with the strategies and that gives us real confidence to take on your challenges! I love seeing everyone's work and will refer to this webpage as I continue to using your exercises and working to keep it loose! I look forward to your next class.

Ellen B: Loved this class. Painting loose and fast adds wonderful energy and excitement to artwork. Patti's very organized and clear lessons, excellent demos, and thoughtful homework assignments, helped me understand how to paint loose and fast, and improve my paintings.

Ray J: I have now attended two Patti Mollica courses as a fairly new painter, and it has been hugely inspiring. Patti puts so much of her time reviewing individual paintings from the homework that is set, that everyone in quite large groups feels they are getting personal feedback. I have changed from very tight, traced drawing paintings from photographs, to having the confidence to paint freely with much better colour and brush control.

Meryl E: Whether you’re new to acrylic painting or not, Patti’s “Loosen Up” workshop will definitely make you think and will have you flexing your artistic muscles. I’ve had many art teachers over the years, and taken quite a few workshops, and feel that “Loosen Up” hit a sweet spot of both pushing me to expand my artistic thinking and supporting my painting efforts.

Patti puts a lot of thought and planning into the online meeting format so that there is plenty of instructional substance. Quality video demonstrations and inspirational slideshows are used to stimulate discussion and FAQ during the meetings. She responds promptly to questions and gives thoughtful, pointed feedback in the Facebook Group, where the interaction between workshop participants is at once lively and supportive. I really felt we were a community of learners “all in this together.” Overall - great value and high marks!

and lots more :-)
